Jon Krivitzky
Jon Krivitzky is a founding member of Bounding Main and is the group’s musical director, purser and also sings tenor. Jon has been involved in other musical projects, notably a widely recognized acapella adaptation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, called Voices on the Dark Side; Dark Side of the Moon – A Cappella. Additionally he has participated in projects featuring Barbershop Music, Madrigal Music and Contemporary Pop and Folk Music. With Bounding Main he has performed at music festivals in the United States, Quebec (Canada), Cornwall (England), the Netherlands, Brittany (France), Germany and Poland.
With dual degrees in music and computer science, Jon works on the IT team for a major medical supply distributor outside of Chicago.
As the Bounding Main musical director he works the group through rehearsals and provides transcriptions of songs that the group has organically arranged. Jon also provides sometimes very complex arrangements of existing, traditional maritime music. Because of his dedication and intuitive musical talent Bounding Main has become internationally recognized for its beautiful harmonies and clever arrangements.
Jon is an enthusiastic follower of American and international politics. He also remains an active supporter of his Washington University acapella group, Mosaic Whispers. This group recently released this video to honor their anniversary in 2020.
Dean Calin
Dean Calin is the founder of Bounding Main, having assembled a group of talented environmental theater performers in 2003. Dean invited members based on showmanship and personality, not being musically skilled enough to assemble a group by vocal range. This has forced the music director to wrestle complex arrangements out of two tenors, two altos and a baritone for a bulk of their years together – a talented and hard-working group, indeed. All of the members are skilled improvisationalists so in addition to their well-known arrangements they are a humorous group between songs, too.
Dean performed at both environmental and conventional theaters and theme parks in the Chicago area from the 70s through the 00s as an actor, writer and director, with a smattering of experience in costuming and stage combat. While he had previously sung for acting roles, his departure as a vocalist with Bounding Main was a welcome opportunity.
As a sales and marketing professional in the commercial aerospace industry he was able to apply his skills to develop and maintain the Bounding Main website and to identify and book most of the group’s gigs since 2003.
Dean is a consultant in the commercial aerospace industry, developing distribution lines, designing maintenance platforms for aircraft and managing the company’s marketing. He also does freelance marketing and IT work.
David Yondorf (RIP)
16 Oct 1979 – 17 May 2023
David passed away at the very young age of 43, on May 17, 2023. You can read his obituary here. The group will not be the same without him.
David Yondorf was a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors and adjunct faculty member at Columbia College, Chicago. He also sang baritone (and occasionally attempted bass) for Bounding Main.
David learned an appreciation of folk music singing along on road trips with his mother, a folk-music aficionado who is a big supporter of our shanty shenanigans. When he wasn’t joining his family singing in the car (Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Kingston Trio) he was busy belting out rock songs in his bedroom (Metallica, Guns N Roses, Nine Inch Nails). Perhaps his family preferred the road trips.
Despite a near-allergic reaction to anything on moving bodies of water, David was delighted to continue singing near ships and about ships for as long as his Dramamine stores held out.
